Getting Started

Set up WappEngage in 4 steps. Total time: approximately 10 minutes.

Install WappEngage from Shopify App Store

Visit the WappEngage listing on the Shopify App Store and click "Install". You'll be redirected back to your Shopify Admin to approve the required permissions. WappEngage requests access to orders, customers, checkouts, and products.

Connect your WhatsApp Business API

After installing, go to WappEngage Settings โ†’ Integrations. Enter your WhatsApp Business API credentials (API key and phone number ID). WappEngage will verify the connection and import your existing WhatsApp contacts.

Enable your first journey

Navigate to Journeys โ†’ Cart Recovery and enable the 3-step cart recovery sequence. WappEngage will automatically fire when a customer abandons their cart. You'll see attribution data in your dashboard within 24 hours.

Review your attribution dashboard

Go to Dashboard to see revenue attributed to WhatsApp, ROAS by channel, and order-level attribution records. Each order shows which signal (discount code, UTM click, pixel session, or profile match) attributed it.

What Shopify permissions does WappEngage request?

WappEngage requests read access to: Orders, Customers, Products, Abandoned Checkouts, and Script Tags. We also install a Web Pixel for session tracking. All permissions are used solely to power attribution and automation features.

Do I need a WhatsApp Business API account?

Yes. WappEngage connects your existing WhatsApp Business API account to Shopify. You can use any WhatsApp Business API provider. WappEngage does not provide the messaging infrastructure โ€” it provides attribution, automation triggers, and analytics on top of your existing setup.

How does the 4-signal attribution work?

WappEngage checks 4 signals in order of confidence: (1) Unique discount code used in the order โ€” 100% confidence. (2) Customer clicked a UTM-tagged WhatsApp link โ€” 85โ€“95% confidence. (3) Customer had a pixel session after a WhatsApp message โ€” 60โ€“80% confidence. (4) Customer phone number matches a subscriber โ€” 40โ€“60% confidence. The first matching signal wins. One order, one attribution source.

How long does it take to see attribution data?

Cart recovery and journey data appears as soon as customers place orders after receiving WhatsApp messages. Dashboard data updates in real-time. Historical attribution (looking back at past orders) is processed within 24 hours of installation.

What is the lookback window for attribution?

Cart Recovery Journeys: 24 hours. Broadcast campaigns: 24 hours. Chatbot conversations: 30 minutes. Opt-in flows: 72 hours. These windows are set to balance accuracy and fair attribution.

Can I use WappEngage without a paid plan?

Yes โ€” all plans include a 14-day free trial with full Pro plan features. No credit card is required to start. After the trial, you'll need to select a paid plan from your Shopify Admin. If no plan is selected, the app will pause (no messages will be sent) but your data is saved for 30 days.

How is billing handled?

WappEngage billing is managed entirely through Shopify Billing. Charges appear on your Shopify invoice. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription directly from Shopify Admin โ†’ Apps โ†’ WappEngage. Shopify retains 20% as their platform fee.

Is WappEngage GDPR compliant?

WappEngage is designed with data privacy in mind. We process customer data strictly as instructed by you (the data controller). You are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent from your customers for WhatsApp marketing, and for maintaining your own privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Your data is retained for 30 days after uninstalling, allowing you to re-install and resume without losing your attribution history and configurations. After 30 days, all your store data is permanently deleted from our systems.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to your Shopify Admin โ†’ Apps โ†’ WappEngage โ†’ and click "Cancel subscription". Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period. You will not be charged again after cancellation.

Who should I contact for support?

Email us at hello@wappengage.com. We aim to respond within one business day on the Starter plan, same business day on the Pro plan, and have a dedicated account manager on Enterprise.

Does WappEngage work with all WhatsApp Business API providers?

WappEngage is designed to work with standard WhatsApp Business API providers. Contact us at hello@wappengage.com with your provider name and we will confirm compatibility.
